This is a giclée print of the silhouette of Sir John Barrow Monument. The prominent memorial on Hoad Hill was built in 1850 in honour of Sir John Barrow, a naval explorer who was born in Ulverston. It is a replica of an early version of the Eddystone Lighthouse (though the monument has never operated as a lighthouse). Sir John was a founder member of the Royal Geographic Society, and held various government posts in the 19th century becoming the Second Secretary to the Admiralty.
These prints are created by firstly outlining the historical monument to create a silhouette, and then layering that artwork over a section of the specified area on a beautiful old map.
This print measures 17 x 17cm. We have a wide range of these prints covering many iconic buildings, monuments and statues from around our beautiful area of East Lothian, as well many famous landmarks from Scotland and the wider UK. A set of 4 framed Old Map Silhouettes hanging in a square formation (2 x 2) is a very striking design statement to enhance any wall, as are 3 (or 5) hanging side by side.
